The Gender, Women, and Civil Society Department leads and coordinates the African Development Bank Group’s wide-ranging efforts promoting gender equality in general, and, in particular, supporting the empowerment of women in Africa, and to maintain and strengthen the Bank Group’s engagement with civil society organisations. The Department is also mandated to implement the Bank’s flagship Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa (AFAWA) initiative. The Gender Strategy 2021-2025 (extended to 2026) approved in December 2020, is based on three pillars that support the Bank's priorities of promoting gender equality, empowering women and girls and accelerating economic and social development in regional member countries. The Front Office of the Director (AHGC.0) coordinates the department’s activities and manages high-level engagements and strategic documents. It plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the department, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and facilitating key decision-making processes. It also plays a coordination role on Gender Data, Knowledge Management and Policy Dialogue. In this regards, the Front Office is coordinating the Africa Gender Index (AGI) initiative to report on the state of gender equality and women empowerment in Africa.

The aim of this consultancy is to support AHGC in its effort of scaling up sector-specific and country-specific gender knowledge products that include: coordinating the production of knowledge products such as the Africa Gender Index 2027 Analytical Report, including reviews, editing, translation and design; supporting the Department in disseminating and boosting the visibility of Bank’s gender knowledge products.
