With financial support from the Gates Foundation, GGGI is implementing the project "Promoting Citywide Inclusive Sanitation through Climate Resilience in West Africa" ??in Senegal, Burkina Faso, and Côte d'Ivoire. This investment is a second phase, following a pilot investment in Nepal and Senegal, which aimed to understand GGGI's potential to support the development of policies, planning, and investments that included sanitation in the climate resilience and green growth agenda.
This second phase, in line with the Government's direction, therefore, represents a continuation of efforts to better integrate sanitation into climate policies through the upcoming revision of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). Making the sanitation sector attractive for climate finance remains a challenge, and this must be achieved through more accurate emissions estimates and a clear implementation plan.
